Ο Παναγιώτης Κοτσαμπόπουλος έλαβε το δίπλωμα του Ηλεκτρολόγου Μηχανικού από τη Σχολή Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών και Μηχανικών Υπολογιστών του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου (ΕΜΠ) το 2010 και το διδακτορικό του πάνω στη διεσπαρμένη παραγωγή ηλεκτρική ενέργειας το 2017 από την ίδια σχολή. Από το 2010 εργάζεται σε ερευνητικά προγράμματα της ερευνητικής ομάδας Smart RUE του ΕΜΠ και συμμετέχει στη διδασκαλία μαθημάτων στο ΕΜΠ. Την περίοδο 2012-2013 εργάστηκε για 5 μήνες ως επισκέπτης ερευνητής στο Austrian Institute of Technology στη Βιέννη. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε αρκετά ευρωπαϊκά ερευνητικά προγράμματα (π.χ. ERIGrid, DERri, NobelGrid, Sustainable) και συνεργασίες με τη ΔΕΗ/ΔΕΔΔΗΕ. Είναι ενεργό μέλος της IEEE PES Task Force on “Real-Time Simulation of Power and Energy Systems” και του IEEE WG P2004 “Recommended Practice for Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation Based Testing of Electric Power Apparatus and Controls”. Ολοκληρώνει τις σπουδές του στο Παιδαγωγικό Τμήμα Δημοτικής Εκπαίδευσης του ΕΚΠΑ. Είναι μέλος του IEEE.
