The international award "Global Energy Prize" was awarded to Professor Nikolaos Hatziargyriou of ECE school of NTUA and founder of Smart RUE.

Professor Nikolaos Hatziargyriou of ECE School was one of three scientists awarded the 2020 Global Energy Prize. The announcement of the award was made on Tuesday 8 September 2020 and the three winners were selected from 78 scientists from a total of 20 countries.

The award of the Greek researcher as announced, is made in recognition of his important contribution in the field of New Energy Applications and in particular in the stability of the electricity grid with the adoption of Artificial Intelligence based methods.


The Global Energy Prize is an award awarded by the non-profit Organization Global Energy Association which is supported by major Russian energy companies. Since 2003, 42 Researchers from 15 countries have been awarded the Global Energy Prize. It is an international prize accompanied by prize money and aims to highlight excellent scientific research in the energy sector, but also to develop new more efficient energy techniques, more environmentally friendly that will respond to major energy problems.
