MICROGRIDS – Large Scale Integration of Micro-Generation to Low Voltage Grids ENK 5-CT-2002-00610

The interconnection of small, modular generation sources to low voltage distribution systems can form a new type of power system, the “MicroGrid”. MicroGrids can be connected to the main power network or be operated autonomously, if they are isolated from the power grid, in a similar manner to the power systems of physical islands. Objective of the project is to explore the technical and economic implications of Microgrids, identify critical issues for their development, develop software codes suitable for the analysis of their operation and provide guidelines for the future exploitation of the potential offered by such innovative concepts.
