Panos Kotsampopoulos received the Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece in 2010 and the PhD degree on distributed energy resources in 2017 from the same school. Since 2010 he has been working on research projects at the Smart RUE research group of NTUA, where he is currently a senior researcher. He was a guest researcher at the Austrian Institute of Technology AIT (Vienna) in 2012 and 2013. He has participated in European research projects as principal investigator for ICCS-NTUA (ERIGrid, DERri, EDDIE), as a researcher (Nobel Grid, Sustainable, DERlab) and in national projects with PPC/HEDNO. He is responsible for the development of the laboratory infrastructure of the Electric Energy Systems Laboratory of NTUA. He is chair of the new IEEE PES Task Force “Innovative teaching methods for modern power and energy systems”. He is an active member of the IEEE PES Task Force on “Real-Time Simulation of Power and Energy Systems” (co-author of 3 papers) and the IEEE WG P2004 “Recommended Practice for Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation Based Testing of Electric Power Apparatus and Controls” (chapter co-leader). He is member of the IEEE PES Task Force on “Contribution to Bulk System Control and Stability by Distributed Energy Resources connected at Distribution Network” (co-author of the technical report) and the CIGRE C6.28 Working Group “Hybrid Systems for Off Grid Power Supply”. He is member of the IEEE Power & Energy Society, the IEEE Education Society, the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Hellenic Educational Society.
He has authored and co-authored more than 50 papers in scientific journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. He is member of the Editorial Board of the “IEEE Open Access Journal of Power and Energy” and the journal “Energies” (MDPI publisher). His research interests include real-time simulation, control of distributed energy resources, power system dynamics and engineering education.
He serves as an academic scholar at NTUA for the course “Introduction to Power Systems” at the winter semester of 2019-2020 and has been participating in the lectures of the “Power Systems Analysis II” course of NTUA since several years. He is chair of the IEEE Greece Section Young Professionals affinity group for the year 2020-2021. He is also finalizing his studies at the School of Education of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is co-founder of the energy community/cooperative “Collective Energy”.
