At the end of 2022 the SmartRue team comprises 1 Principal Researcher, 9 Senior Researchers with PhDs, 14 Researchers-PhD students, 9 researchers-non-PhD students and 7 Research Associates/ICT, 4 administrative/technical

During the year we spent 1.883 k€ mainly for personnel, while its income was 2.495 k€. EU RDD projects contributed 68% of funding.

The laboratory was significantly enhanced with new hardware and software.

The team was involved in 4 undergraduate courses, 4 (2 new) postgraduate courses, providing tutorials and laboratory exercises and various other educational activities at all levels of education, including seminars at other universities, summer school and pre-University education.

1 Phd was awarded, while 15 more are in progress. 6 Diploma theses were completed in 2022, co-supervised by SmartRue researchers, while 2 more are in progress.

Research activity includes 3 completed (CROSSBOW, Compile, Coordinet), 13 EU projects in progress or starting (X-FLEX, PlatOne, Synergy, Smart4RES, TRINITY, ERIGRID2, EDDIE, RE-EMPOWERED, CC-RSG, DRES2MARKET, R2D2, SYNERGIES, Every1). Significant activity in non-EU funded projects and in Service Contracts (KYTHNOS, SPRING) and in National projects, including a Greek Educational project.  

The publishing activity comprises 33 journal papers and 13 conference papers. The team has participated in several tutorials, project meetings, etc.

Members of the group lead or participate actively in IEEE, CIGRE, World Bank and EC activities (BRIDGE, SPRING, 2ZERO).

At the end of 2021 the SmartRue team comprises 11 Senior Researchers with PhDs, 16 Researchers-PhD students, 8 researchers-non-PhD students and 8 Research Associates/ICT, 4 administrative/technical.

During the year we spent 1.679 k€ mainly for personnel, while its income was 1.752 k€. EU RDD projects contributed to 65% of funding.

The team was involved in 4 undergraduate courses, 4 postgraduate courses, providing tutorials and laboratory exercises and various other educational activities at all levels of education.

16 Diploma theses were completed in 2021, co-supervised by SmartRue researchers, while 16 more are in progress.

Research activity includes 13 EU projects in progress (CROSSBOW, Compile, Coordinet, X-FLEX, PlatOne, Synergy, Smart4RES, TRINITY, ERIGRID2, EDDIE, RE EMPOWERED, CC-RSG, DRES2MARKET). Significant activity in non-EU funded projects and in Service Contracts (KYTHNOS, SPRING) and in National projects.

The publishing activity comprises 35 journal papers and 11 conference papers, 2 book chapters.

The team has participated in several tutorials, project meetings, etc.
Members of the group lead or participate actively in IEEE, CIGRE and EC activities (BRIDGE, SPRING).

At the end of 2020 the SmartRue team comprises 11 Senior Researchers with PhDs, 14 Researchers-PhD students, 8 researchers-non-PhD students and 4 Research Associates/ICT, 5 administrative/technical.

During the year we spent 1.768 k€ mainly for personnel, but also for travels, consumables, equipment, subscriptions in journals, books, etc., while its income was      1.842 k€. The main source of funding is EU RDD projects.

The EES Laboratory was greatly enhanced with a GTNT card for upgrading the RTDS and a MGCC for Microgrids Control.

The team was involved in 3 undergraduate courses, 4 postgraduate courses, providing tutorials and laboratory exercises and various other educational activities at all levels of education.

1 PhDs were graduated.

2020 Global Energy Prize Laureate.

At the end of 2019 the SmartRue team comprises 11 Senior Researchers with PhDs, 12 Researchers-PhD students, 10 researchers-non-PhD students and 5 Research Associates/ICT, 5 administrative/technical.

During the year it spent 1.618 k€ mainly for personnel, but also for travels, consumables, equipment, subscriptions in journals, books, etc., while its income was      1.658 k€. The main source of funding is EU RDD projects.

The EES Laboratory was substantially upgraded by the enhanced RTDS equipment.

 Batteries and upgrade of the SCADA system.

The team was involved in 3 undergraduate courses providing tutorials and laboratory exercises and various other educational activities including a Summer School.

3 PhDs were graduated.

7 Diploma theses were completed in 2019, co-supervised by SmartRue researchers.

Research activity includes 2 EU projects completed (Shar-q, GRIDSOL), 7 EU projects in progress (ERIGRID, WISEGRID, i-distributed PV, CROSSBOW, Compile, Coordinet, X-FLEX), while 6 more have just started (PlatOne, Synergy, Smart4RES, TRINITY, ERIGRID2, EDDIE). Significant activity in nationally funded projects.

Good activity in Energy Communities and good educational activities, including environmental awareness in primary and secondary schools.

The publishing activity comprises 22 journal papers and 24 conference papers. The team has participated in many conferences, tutorials, project meetings, organized a very successful summer school, etc.

Members of the group participate actively in IEEE and EC WGs.

2019 Thomson Reuters 1% top Researchers.

At the end of 2018 the SmartRue team comprises 12 Senior Researchers with PhDs, 12 Researchers-PhD students, 7 researchers-non-PhD students and 6 Research Associates/ICT.

During the year it spent 1.158,5 k€ mainly for personnel, but also for travels, consumables, equipment, subscriptions in journals, books, etc., while its income was 1.204 k€. The main source of funding is again EU RDD projects.

The EES Laboratory was mainly maintained with the replacement of batteries and upgrade of the SCADA system. The very important work of the RTDS upgrade is in progress.

The team was involved in 3 undergraduate courses providing tutorials and laboratory exercises that were enriched and renewed in the last year.

1 PhD was graduated and 2 passed successfully the intermediate examination.

Collaboration with HEDNO is increased within the agreed framework including studies, and consultancy and additional projects.

Very good activity in Rural Electrification projects and classes on environmental awareness in primary and secondary schools.

The publishing activity comprises 14 journal papers and 27 conference papers. The team has participated in many conferences, tutorials, project meetings, etc.

2018 IEEE PES Working Group Recognition Award for Technical Report.

At the end of 2017 the SmartRue team comprises 10 Senior Researchers with PhDs, 11 Researchers-PhD students, 6 researchers-non-PhD students and 5 Research Associates/ICT.

During the year it spent 953,5 k€ mainly for personnel, but also for travels, consumables, equipment, subscriptions in journals, books, etc., while its income was 960,7 k€. The main source of funding is EU RDD projects.

The EES Laboratory was further enhanced with new hardware and software facilities. The team was involved in 3 undergraduate courses providing tutorials and laboratory exercises. 4 PhD were graduated and 1 passed successfully the intermediate examination.

Research activity includes 2 EU projects completed (DREAM, SMARTER EMC2), 7 EU projects in progress (NOBELGRID, ERIGRID, Shar-q, WISEGRID, GRIDSOL, TESTBED, idistributed PV). Significant effort to participate in Horizon programme. Significant activity in nationally funded projacts. Collaboration with HEDNO is increased within the agreed framework including studies, and consultancy and additional projects.

Nikos Hatziargyriou is included for the second successive year in the 2017 Thomson Reuters’ list of the top 1% most cited researchers in any field and discipline, as a result of SmartRue’s research work.

At the end of 2016 the SmartRue team comprises 12 Senior Researchers with PhDs, 17 Researchers-PhD students, 5  researchers-non-PhD students and 5 Research Associates/ICT.

During the year it spent 747 k€ mainly for personnel, but also for travels, consumables, equipment, subscriptions in journals, books, etc., while its income was 875 k€. The main source of funding is EU RDD projects.

The team was involved in 3 undergraduate courses providing tutorials and laboratory exercises. 4  PhD candidates passed successfully the intermediate examination.
39 Diploma theses were completed in 2016, co-supervised by SmartRue researchers.

Research activity includes 3 EU projects completed (IGREENGrid, SuSTAINABLE, COTEVOS), 8 EU projects in progress (DREAM, NOBELGRID, SMARTER EMC2, ERIGRID, Shar-q, WISEGRID, GRIDSOL, TESTBED ), the 3 last just started. Collaboration with HEDNO continued within the agreed framework including studies, and consultancy. Significant effort to participate in Horizon programme.

The publishing activity comprises 20 journal papers and 24 conference papers. The team has participated in several conferences, tutorials, project meetings, etc.

The Microgrids Laboratory was significantly enhanced with an upgrade of RTDS, a new TRIPHASE, a PV simulator, EV charging station simulator and WT manufacturing infrastructure.

The team was involved in 3 undergraduate courses providing tutorials and laboratory exercises. One PhD was awarded. 37 Diploma theses were co-supervised by SmartRue researchers, while 45 are in progress.

Research activity includes 2 EU projects completed (Smartkye, FASTINCHARGE), 3 EU projects at the final stage (IGREENGrid, SuSTAINABLE, COTEVOS), 4 EU projects in progress (DREAM, NOBELGRID, SMARTER EMC2, ERIGRID). Collaboration with HEDNO continued within the agreed framework including studies, and consultancy. Significant effort to participate in Horizon programme.

The publishing activity comprises 5 book chapters, 26 journal papers and 24 conference papers. The team has organized the 11th Microgrids Symposium in Aalborg and two smartgrids workshops for HEDNO. It has participated in several conferences, tutorials, project meetings, etc.

It has organized educational activities in schools concerning climate change and renewable including specialized labs. Members of the group participate in CIGRE and IEEE WGs.

Smart Rue received several awards including the 1st Prize at the European Most Innovative SmartGrids Solutions Competition with the project “Meltemi Community Pilot Site”, the National Energy Globe Award Greece “Μικροδίκτυα με χρήση Ανανεώσιμων Πηγών Ενέργειας“, Austrian Embassy, etc.

At the end of 2014 the SmartRue team comprises 10 Senior Researchers with PhDs, 15 Researchers-PhD students, 3 researchers-non-PhD students and 4 Research Associates/ICT. The Microgrids laboratory has been significantly enhanced with new hardware.

The team was involved in 3 undergraduate courses providing tutorials and laboratory exercises. One PhD was awarded, while a second one is submitted. 27 Diploma theses were co-supervised by SmartRue researchers, while 35 are in progress.

Research activity includes 2 EU projects completed (BEAMS, DERLAB), 5 EU projects in progress (Smartkye, DREAM, IGREENGrid, SuSTAINABLE, FASTINCHARGE, COTEVOS), while 2 more start in 2015 (NOBELGRID, SMARTER EMC2). Collaboration with HEDNO was continued within the agreed framework including studies, and consultancy. The most important project concerns “Generation planning for the non-interconnected islands”. Further works include a study for CERA, Cyprus concerning “RES Planning”, and smaller projects, like the Design and installation of an e-bikes sharing system at Meltemi and the FES position paper.

The publishing activity comprises 1 book, 14 journal papers and 36 conference papers. The team has organized the international Conference MedPower 2014 and Wind Empowerment in Athens and two smartgrids workshops for HEDNO. It has participated in several conferences, tutorials, project meetings, etc.

It has organized educational activities in schools concerning climate change and renewable including specialized labs. It has produced a policy paper for FLOK (Equador). Members of the group participate in CIGRE and IEEE WGs.

Members of the team have exchanged visits with AIT, Univ. of Greenwhich, Cardiff University, etc.
